Finally changed the end on the negative battery cable on my '87, really wanted my truck running before this next round of winter.
In the process of reconnecting this doohicky which connects to the negative battery cable at the battery, the connector broke.
What is it? Fusible link?
Parts dude had no idea. Really hoping not to have to mess with the butt connector with the 4 other wires disappearing into the wiring harness....

I vaguely remember there being a smallish black box mounted on the front rad support in the vicinity of the passenger side headlight. I believe it's a ground for that box.

It a waterproof connector… nothing really special about it.

I guess the next question is, repair options? Would it be better to splice in a new length of wire with an aftermarket connector or would a solid length of wire be acceptable? Will I be likely to need to access that connection for anything?

If my memory is any good! I believe on the radiator support you have 2 grounds bolted to it . Right by the radiator. Should have factory ends . Possible they put an end on that wire and bolted it there . They come out of the same harness , right below the battery. I would find it and with good connectors and heat shrink hook it back up. it's basically is the main ground for the system .

You could buy shielded bullet crimp on connector, a male and a female.

Thank you! I appreciate the point in the right direction! Weather allowing I'll dig back in this weekend!

Ford uses the same connector on the starting circuit on the 2008 or so Superduty… I checked Fords wiring diagrams, there’s no part number listed and it’s says it’s not serviced separately.

Thank you for looking!

On an 89' Bronco 2 that is the ground wire for the rear ABS brakes........took me quite some time to find out why I had an ABS light on the dash.

you should have a 2 wire plug wire for the rabs and the other wire is the direct ground as is the 88. In 89 the wiring was changed.

here is a picture of both set-ups with part numbers

I had issues with starting due to my main ground cable and began modifying the poorly designed ground system in my 91. I used ag grade cables and the truck fires much easier than when I got it...now I have a new hard start issue that isn't due to the wiring but either the tps or an injection issue
