Small engine diagnosis help

Well long story short is I bought an 88 yamaha razz 50cc automatic scooter from a buddy. It had been sitting since 1992 in his garage. After doing everything to it I could think of it runs and idles really smooth and even. Problem is when you start riding it it bogs down like its not getting any fuel when its switching from the main jet to the next (I think). It then stays bogged down until you shut if off and turn it back on or until you open the choke. With the choke open it runs fine all the time.

All Ive done to it so far is...

Replaced fuel lines
opened up petcock and flushed out
added an inline fuel filter
had the carb cleaned at our yamaha dealer
drained oil and added new

thats pretty much it.


Got any ideas on what it could be, let me know

Sounds like you've already diagnosed the problem, the choke is staying on.

How would that mean the choke is stayng on?

Choke open = choke off correct?

Any warmed up engine will bog with the choke on (closed) How long the choke needs to be on (closed) varies widley from engine to engine and eviromental conditions.

Not sure what the weather is like in your area, but on my stuff with a mechanical choke I won't touch hardly touch the choke right now. In the dead of winter, heck yeah but there is still a time it has to open up. Generally when it starts smoking and falling on its face.
