Has anyone installed the SLR performance chip in their 2.3 4 cyl.? They claim a 60 HP gain and better gas milage. Does it work and is it worth the $70?
I say phooey! There is no way that chip will work on on any Ranger with any size engine from 1990 to 2011. They don't ask for year or engine, so they apparently claim one chip works with them all. And 60hp is pure bunk unless you are talking about a turbo engine. There might have been 20hp to be gained in the 1980's, but these days automakers are pretty good with their programming and don't leave much on the table.
The only way you are getting 60 hp in a 4 cyl ranger is shaving the head 150 thousandths...You do realize that 60 hp is almost 50% more power than rated stock, don't you??

Would love a bump like that, but I seriously doubt its possible. Want more kick, modify your differential for acceleration rather than top end, assuming Ford used the 4.10s in '09 like they did in '10 (autos anyway, the manuals were 3.73). This, of course, assumes that I'm not mistaken about how ratios affect acceleration anyway...
