Son,s 94 Ranger auto. When the truck sits for the night or allowed to cool down it takes awhile for the trans to engage.Once it is warm it shifts fine.Transmission filter was changed and fluid is clean and at right level.

My dads expedition does this, when you put it gear its like it doesn't kick in til you hit the gas, my auto teacher said to try lube gard in it. I still haven't tryd it yet

That is almost allways because it is low on oil. Once the oil heats up it raises the oil level. Add 1/2 quart of oil and see if it goes away. Then run it until it does it again that will tell you how fast the leak is. Was this happening before the filter change and are you checking the level in neutral after it is up to normal operating temps. Run it for a half hour and then check it in neutral while running.
