Awhile back I got a shifter bushing kit from allstategear.com and put it in and for a week the shifter got better and now is back to the same sloppiness again. The kit I got had the two bushings, pins, and a washer and top seal.. Is there something else wrong here? I'm afraid ill kill this trans soon if I don't get it solved.. I was gunna order a new kit dorman offers with the wave lock washer and the rest of the stuff..could the rails be shot or maybe even the rod that moves the rails?? Any help will be appreciated thanks....

The rails and end of the shifter are probably fine. Depending on the nylon or plastic used when they made your bushings is the most likely culprit. If you can get a FORD factory replacement. I got one off ebay a few months back in the FORD numbered bag. Was about 25 bucks if I recall.

Have you taken the shifter back out yet...?

I ran into the same issue with mine. I got a $12 bushing kit from eBay, and soon later had a sloppy shifter. Just last weekend I pulled my shifter to free a stuck shift rail and found the upper bushing MIA.

My conclusion, my trans is a POS and on an unrelated note, cheap replacement bushings suck.
