As the title says. The shifter in my truck us really floppy and not very precise. And it's somewhat clunky when changing gear. Is this a normal thing for rangers? I've never driven another manual ranger. I have driven a 98 f150 with the m5od-r2. And that shifter felt so much better than mine.

Also for maintenance I want to change the fluid in it. What trans fluid do I use? And how much?

I owned a new Ranger in 2002. 5 inches of play side-to-side. Brand new. It's a truck. You shouldn't purchase a truck expecting 'refined'. Or...don't buy a truck. lol

I was looking into those repair kits. I just wasn't sure about them.

What's everyone's opinions about the Hurst shifter?

The repair kits are just fine.

The hurst shifter is a really nice piece. If you don't mind shelling out the cash for one it's the best option.

I definitely don't mind the price on the Hurst. If I was to go the Hurst route, will that work with the m5od-r2 when I start collecting parts for my v8 swap?

YES the shifter assembly is the same. but the handle is different. which doesnt matter if its going into a ranger anyway

That's good news. I'll probably pick up the hurst. And yeah the f150 I drove, the shifter it self was longer and was leaning to the driver side

The shifter assembly/repair kits. front and rear main seals. and the speedomter gears are the only interchangeable parts betwen the r1 and r2 transmissions.

That's some good info to have. That'll make it a lot easier to get replacement parts

Rockauto also carrys Dorman shifter repair kits for less but they don't include the slotted ball that the shifter handle mounts to. If it's just the pins or bushings that're worn and not the slots or tip of the ball then that's another option.

I have seen the one on rock auto. But I'm not sure what's worn out yet as I haven't had it apart yet. Way too cold for my liking outside. Lol
