Ever since I'd done the work to my 3.0 I've heard a slight static that sounds like ignition in my speakers. This only occurs when my radio is on. If I play CD's or my Ipod it'll go away. The engine had always had a miss....but I figured the exhaust leaks before the HO2S's, bad plugs, and worn cap, wires, and rotor had something to do with it. Now all of that is gone. The only igntion items I haven't messed with are the module, coil, and (little cylindrical silver thing mounted on the bracket next to the coil. It has one wire leading to it, and I think it's called a condensor???). I'm going to try and diagnos by going through the chiltons tests with my DMM.

I wanted to hear if others with 3.0's or 2.9's had the same issue with their distributor ignition systems.

The gizmo located near the coil is indeed a radio
frequency (RF) suppression condenser.
If it's shorted to it's base, then it's bad.

That might be your trouble; and they're inexpensive......

Sounds good....I'll give it a try.

Tried the condenser....helped but.....FAIL

Then switched out the cheapy cap I put on when I did the tune-up a couple months back. Used an extra BWD select cap and the popping went away.

One thing I noticed different is the color of the plug wire contacts and that the coil plug wire contact, the one inside that touches the rotor, is a spring loaded "carbon" contact vs. the cheapy that had a solid contact. All this led me to, just give it a try......btw, the rotor I installed was BWD (Borg Warner Div). I just took what they had in stock. This also could be a case of the rotor not being designed to run with the style of cap I had too.

Moral of the story: ALWAYS use a high quality cap and rotor!
