Does anyone know what size the resistor is that is usually around the power steering pump? I don't know the technical name for the resistor but it's in the wire that goes from the TFI to the coil (green). I was told in Ohms it's 22k but i need to know the watts as well. I also was told to go to radio shack and get the biggest watt one they have and the biggest one was under 1 watt, so i figured that was to small. So, anyone have any idea what size it is for sure? thanks in advance.

maybe...

i'm not too sure but i dont think the wattage matters in this application because it is a signal wire, there is noting really drawing power.

Just get the biggest one you can.

Electrical heat is tiny on a resistor that size. It's V^2/R. Engine heat is not tiny, but that's not how resistors are sized.

Thanks for the replys. I'll get one as soon as i can. Would you recommend soldiering it in and using shrink rap over the ends as the best way to change it?

That's how I prefer to do all electrical repairs. Except it's heat-shrink tubing. Shrink wrap is something else entirely, and I don't think it will be very effective.

I'd try to find a shell for one of the tubular fuses to put the resistor in, so the shell takes any stress that would otherwise be placed on the resistor.

just thought i'd update everyone. I finally went by a radio shack and got the resistor, pack of 5 was $1.04. I cut the old one out and split open the casing around it and just reused that around the new one and taped it up. I did notice on the old one it said 5 watts and the new one said 1/2 watt. Will that pose any problem for me? I installed the new one and started it up and it ran fine and didn't die when i put it in gear like it useally does. I guess i just have to run it awhile then check for codes again. I already had the battery unhooked while i installed the new one so the old codes should be gone.
