SIZE ENVY

Little tires are more.... sexy

I would not put tall tires on a Ranger as they are not powerful engines (especially the 4 banger) and the tires will slow up acceleration. As far as bigger rims. The 16's might be ok. The stock size is 225/70/15 so 16's would be 235/60/16. The problem is that the Ranger already has a harsh ride when equipped with fresh shocks and bushings. I can't see going with a shorter sidewall. The suspension on a Ranger is pretty primitive. The stock tire size makes it bearable. These trucks are not sporty in any way. They are economical, practical workhorses which can provide durability and good economy. I used to be a Miata owner. Most of my friends went up a rim size and ruined the comfort and acceleration on those old 1.6 liter engines. The Ranger is not the kind of car which does well with big rims. as far as the lift kits. That might be a different story, but I've never understood lifts on any car. Handling will be worse as will safety. Generally, you want to be as close to the ground as possible for safety and handling. That's pure physics. If you want to modify a Ranger, consider a spray in bed liner. Consider a better stereo. Consider aftermarket seats, and an easy repair is to swap out the bushings in a manual transmission shifter if you have one. It's a half hour job and you'll feel a big difference.
Thanks Garth for the msg that came at the perfect timing. I was just looking for information and advice about how my Ranger is running now with the 275/40 R20 I just put on it as a test. The rims & tires came off a previous Jeep I had and they look so nice I really wanted to put them somewhere else other than in the back of the garage. The bolt pattern happen to be the same as my Ranger so I had to give it a try. And as you might have guessed and already said in your message it won't ride like I had hoped it would. It definitely looks good and I'm getting alot of compliments on the truck as a whole because of its super clean appearance, stance & color, but the ride doesn't inspire confidence. On main roads or highways it actually doesn't feel bad at all, but if it hits any bumps it shakes & wiggles and like you said it's pretty harsh. I didn't lift it or anything, just added 5/16" spacers. Getting the suspension adjusted to make it ride better might be too much work, so as soon as I can get my hands on some 16" or 17" rims & white letter tires as seen in the photo shop picture I'll try to attach I'll change out to that. I'll also try to attach a pic of how it looks now. Your advice & opinions are much appreciated.
