I got a new bed for my truck being that the crossmembers and floor rusted out. Big shocker I know. It's the toreador red metallic and still in pretty good shape. My biggest concern is painting the bed to match and having it look way too new or more glossy than the rest of the truck. I'm going to have the whole truck detailed after whicg will help a ton. Just not sure if I should go with a single stage paint or 2 stage

I'd do a two stage. Sand the bed enough to make it dull, then shoot your color, and do a clear coat over it. The existing paint will act as a good primer.

Then buff the whole thing with a good rubbing compound.

single stage and metallic is not a good idea. when you go to wet sand, youll actually start to sand into the pearl, and can easily distort the metallics in the paint.

use a 2 stage paint.

Definitely two stage if you want it right.

Easy paint jobs aren't good and good paint jobs aren't easy.

Sweet. 2 stage it is. We've painted a few cars before so I wasn't worried about difficulty. Just wanted it to match best. Body work is basically done. Just have to prime and spray it

How much paint do you think it would take to get the bed sides done. I should be able to just get away with a quart no?

For just the bed sides a quart should be enough, but it depends on how thick you want it.

I think I did my whole bed, inside, outside, and underside with a little more than 1.5 qts.
