My credo
Why should I pay someone else to screw it up when I can screw it up myself for free?
I noticed a some minor checking on the belt and wonder what the best recommended belt is? I've always had good luck with a Gates premium type in the past on other cars. I live in a very hot climate that isn't kind to belts.

I always used Gates belts and hoses when I live in Phoenix, AZ.

Gates and Dayco seem to work fine.

On my 2001 V6~4.0L~SOHC, had irritating squeak\tick noise several years ago with the Ford belt,
switched to the Contintental=GatorBack below with good result.
But I live in a cool 9000ft mountain climate.

I have had good luck with all the belt brands I have used (Gates, Dayco, GatorBack). When I had an issue it was due to worn pulleys not the belt.

Another vote for Gates, any product.

Thanks everyone, it's unanimous!

Now I can give my answer.

"The one that fits, is still a complete loop and not cracked or frayed."

I never throw the old one away when I replace mine... I roll it up and add it to the truck tool kit.

Because... shit happens!

That’s what I did. I think my replacement belt is a Dayco. It spins what needs spun and doesn’t make any noise while doing it.

Old belts make good slings for lifting stuff too. I always kept a few of them on my forklift and cherry picker. Of course this was before I had to deal with these crazy people called "OSHA".

Check out the Gatorback. I think Goodyear makes it.
