Simple question regarding fuel economy...

The Virginia State Police drive un-marked cars that are darn near next to impossible to identify on the express roads these days. They look just like ordinary everday people's cars. They sit on the side of the road as if they are broken down & they "blend" in with the other traffic & you are not sure if they are the cops or not. There was a report made about 3 months ago that they were going to "crack down" on interstate I-81 & they ran ads on the TV, radio & even put it up on billboards for everyone to see in ADVANCE to let people know what was about to take place. The report made after the "WEEKEND CRACKDOWN" was they had ticketed 5,786 drivers on Saturday & 3,492 on Sunday. And these were not for just running 10 miles over the speed limit either. The majority of the tickets written were for people running in EXCESS of 20 miles over the speed limit. Of the total ticket written, 92% of them were for OUT OF STATE DRIVERS. That is "careless & wreckless" driving & can get you arrested on the spot with your vehicle impounded automatically. This does not include fines over $1,000.00 & possible jail time too.

I did't write the laws & had nothing to do with passing the laws. I just obey the laws & they are in place for good reasons. If we had no laws there would be a lot more deaths on the road then there is already. If I feel the need to race I will go to the dragstrip or the oval track. NOT on the highway!!!!

I think Nixon put the National speed limit at 55mph because wind resistence becomes a factor at 50mph.
Made my '56 Chevy pickup viable again (as well as old VW beetles).

When the double nickel was repealed (about the same time as the internet took hold) the economy flourished for a while.

Deep breath VAGent, don't give yerself a coronary now, you must be one them local drivers that gets paid by the hour, huh?
Doesn't surprise a WEEKEND crackdown nets a lot of out of state drivers, esp. on I-81. Careful though, I heard next week they're gonna be lookin' for outlaw truckers that jump out there in the hammer lane and try to block traffic. :nono:

My pet peeve is the tourists.

On a nice day (like today -- high 70s, very dry), the tourists come out in droves and drive on the one road down the valley REALLY SLOWLY. It's quite pretty; I can understand it. What I don't understand is the absolute refusal to use a turnout. Some of us actually live here and drive the highway to get something done.

And then there are the crotch rocket riders. 70 MPH on a twisty mountain road with posted 45 MPH speed limit and curves as slow as 15 MPH (most around 30 MPH, though). Several times a summer, one gets made into road pizza.
