shyjacker 6inch, 8inch

A 6" kit with 8" coils on a Supercab is a whole different animal than a full 8" kit with 8" drop brackets.

The extreme arm will not work with a Superlift steeringkit either (unless you modified the idlerarm length, but that would still put the same stress on the upper bushings as dropping the centerlink a similarly large amount)

An 8" kit will take a full-custom-fab linkage to get decent steering & alignment on it, no way around it.

I had a 94 with the 8'' kit and i had it pushed outto 10 with f150spacers under the springs. Let me tell you i never ever coudl get it aligned and im a ford tech. it would bounce out bounce in the scrub was insane. Bumpsteer was crazy. i tried a moddified snowthrower type system with 2 long side pas side links with the eyes welded together. it helped but not enough. I used extreme drop pitman with a modified super runner kit. it would blow out the idler very very quickly. i eventually made a set of aluminum bushings for the idler and flexed the frame so hard at the steering box it cracked the frame around 2 of the 3 bolts. I would absolutly not run any TTB truck with that kind of lift. I had 38.5x14.5x15 boggers on this truck and it DESTROYED wheel bearings weekly. not to mention if someone turned the wheel you could watch the truck flex the frame rail in and out........instead of moving the tires. serious drop pitman arms are bad bad bad news.

theres a picture of the truck with smaller 36'' tires. still had massive insane bumpsteer issues

yes I have. I have installed the 8" kit on 2 different trucks and had them aligned easily. Actually it wasn't the 8" kit, but a 6" kit with the 8" coils......both trucks were 4.0 supercabs....

its a completely different animal, and with a 4.0 supercab u have mroe weight so bumpsteer and alingment arent going to be as hard to get right/control.

when u install a REAL 8" kit then come talk to me, ive installed atleast a dozen on trucks where the cutomer though that they were different then every other one i had done. the closest i have ever gotten to a perfect alingment was gettin a truck to track straight but still had VISCOUS bump steer, its impossible to get a FULL 8" system properly alinged, ive said it once ill say it a thousand times

and did the original poster never said what kind of truck he had did he? I sure am glad you have done those installs, it really impresses me - not.......

If you want the kit, get it.....there are plenty of ways to get your steering correct......

unless u want to pay several people money for "alinging" the truck one it has a 8" lift, i wouldnt if i were him, but what do i know, i only do these things for a living

so far your the only one that claims its easy to get the alingment done on a 8" lift and u yourself hae never done a truck 8" suspension lift for the TTB, those of use that have done the 8" lift know that a proper alingment and steering geometry is next to impossible short of complete custom work. i am simply suggesting for u not to give advice on something u have no experince with, the 6" system with 8" coils is a completely different animal the the 8" system with 8" coils, end of story.

well im glad i read this thread before i did something stupid. but i want my ranger to blow my friends jeep away (or atleast keep up with him no problem) he's got a new wrangler and all he does is talk shit on my truck.i just tell him "sorry I dont have 30 grand to dump into something" i just want to shut him up though.

If you want to run a 8 inch lift pm me.I can show you pictures and tell how to get it in alignment.Mine is perfect can run 80 mph on the interstate and drive it with two fingers.I have put over 45,000 miles on my set up.But i do not do more than alittle mudding with it.I hate how everyone dumps on the 8 inch lift.I have three 8 inch lifts two installed and one waiting to go on a 92 two door sport explorer.I an getting ready to make a set of extended radius arms for my 8 inch kit.For steering I make my own set up modeled after the super runner set up.All with dom and fight and left handed taps to use factory explorer tre's.It can be done and done right. But its not for extreme four wheeling.More for mall crawling and pavment pounding.

right now i have (what i believe to be skyjacker) 4'' kit. but i have a set of lift shackles and am looking for a good deal on some explorer leafs to give me and extra inch or two in the rear, and maybe the f150 spacers in the front. or if i get some cash then a straight up 6'' kit. i was looking at the 8'' only cuz its huge! but it sounds like its more trouble than its worth, even if its alligned right and what ever else involved. i want something that can handle the trails.would a solid front axle be a better platform for great heights? because i was planning on upgrading that too.but unfortunaly my wants and plans GREATLY exceed my ability to provide such possibilities in my near future:sad:

u dont need to go through that to get a little more height, just grind the rivets that hold your spring buckets in, drill new holes about a inch and half higher and drop them down, takes about 30 mins per side and nets u a 2" lift which will easily be able to be aling becuase the brackets are the same for a 6" kit as a 4" kit on most lifts, and will aling no problem, ive done this on LOTS of trucks that just needed that little bit more

i wouldnt be worried about ur axles for the time being, runnin 35s + i would change them but they will take the abuse from anything smaller pretty much smile and ask for more
