So, I got my Advanced Adaptors, Ford AOD to BW 1350 adapter, and it was shiny and cool and what-not.
So I'm done putting the engine together, up to the point where it needs some enamel, now it's time to prep this transmission. Once its on the bench I flip through my ford published manual on the towncar that I got this driveline from and discover I have to gut the entire transmission to get to the output shaft.
sweet
So, with my best buddy lending me a hand we tear the AOD apart in under an hour. no biggey. We change out the output shaft in about 1/2 hr. We start reassembling. We hit a snag there with mystery snapring, but got it sorted out (turns out we didn't NEED to have it in, it was just there to aid in assembly, but we did't know that at the time, whatever, it's in now)
After figuring that puzzle out I reassembled the transmission. I am 99% sure I have everything in the right order.
BUT, I put the pump in before I installed the servos that operated the reverse and overdrive clutch bands (not clutch packs, clutch bands).
So everything underneath the valve body is installed and torqued up. What bugging me is only 1 of the 3 shafts will turn. The only shaft that will turn is the Direct Drive Shaft. Obviously the output shaft does NOT turn, no clutch packs SHOULD be engaged (If I put it together right) because there is no pressure from the non-turning pump, and no valve body installed.
IS THIS CORRECT??? that only the one shaft turns? I know nothing about automatics, this was very scary to take one apart, and now I'm not sure if I put it back together 100%
PS: I am going to change that pump seal.
