Should I switch transfer cases?

I'm changing the transmission in my truck and the donor truck has a good transfer case, should I just switch them while I'm at it? Donor truck is an 84 ranger 2.8 and mine is 86 2.9

both would be the same t/case. unless one is manual and one auto. if so, use the manual one! if both are auto or manual, use either one. keep the other as a spare.

Probably have to use the t-case that came with the transmission.

The older ones had a shorter non-removable lever. Most of the later ones use a longer lever that is removable. If you can find a lever off of a FM145 truck it is both removable and shorter.

The rest of the linkage of course varies with transmissions too.
