should i lift my ranger?

I have a 90 ranger 2wd, i was planning on installing a body lift and doing whats necessary to fit some 33s, but is it a good idea? It has a 2.9 with an auto trans :bawling:

Im looking at suspension connection.com, they have a 3inch for 120 bucks shipped

for 33"s ull need to regrear it too, or u will kill the tranny.

its your truck so if u wanna lift it, do it.
 
Dont even think about doing it if you dont want to spend the money on re gearing.

So i just replace the ring and pinion set?
Where is a good place to get em? (Cheapest)
Is there another stock RBV that might have 4.10s or 4.56s that I can pull out in a junk yard?

any 91-01 explorer could have 4.10 gears, but ull need to relocate the spring leave and shock mounts. the explorer is a 8.8" dif with a 31 spline. thats a stronger axle. it also come with disk brakes(some of them) or a bronco II axle.

any 90-10 ranger could have 4.10 gears too. either a 7.5 or 8.8 28 spline.
using a ranger axle is easier cuz u wont need to relocate anything.

4.10 was the top gears any rbv had from factory.

Can I just take the gears out of ranger or aerostar and swap them in, or will it not work? I read a list of what gears each rbv has and saw an aero with 4.10s, and I would prefer not swapping the entire rear end.
 
ull need the gears from the same diff u have. if its a 2wd im assuming u have a 7.5" diff.
so ull need the gears out of a 7.5". from another ranger.
i think that areos had a 8.8 diff.
 
I bought my 4.10 gears from americanmuscle.com. Its a mustang site but they have the same rear ends as rangers. i bought Ford Racing gears and Motive Bearing kit and got free shipping. You cant do gears without an install kit and since your truck is a 1990 it would be best to get a bearing kit instead of just an install kit.
 
You need to regear.

1) You speedometer won't be off when you drive
2) You won't overheat, cook, and thus destroy your transmission.
3) It's more fun to drive since your truck is not a slug.
4) You stay in your motor's powerband, and will accelerate like normal.
5) Capability (if you ever choose to use it occasionally offroad)
6) Gears are THE best upgrade for the amount of money spent

I bought my gears (for 8.8" differential/ring gear) off of eBay for $48 (only had 200 miles on a mustang, and the guy decided to switch to 3.73 gears instead). Gear & bearing set was aother $30 for a full set with crushsleeves, etc. I installed it at a local mechanioc for $70. $150 installed, and I could not have been any more happier. Your tires will cost more...shit, one tire alone could be more!

On another note, I have a used Skyjacker Class II lift kit (with extended radius arms) that I never installed on my truck when I had it. Some bizotch T-boned me before I could do it, Interested?
