Shortened Ford 9' Swap

Hello, I am relatively new. Haven't gotten on in a while due to messing with expensive foreign cars I have no business even trying to own, but now my sights are back on my 84 ranger. I have purchased a shortened Ford 9' axle and I was wondering what I needed to do to swap my stock axle out for the 9'. I have been sitting on the axle for about a year now only because I have no Idea what to do next. I know I want to swap the drum brakes to disc brakes and I also want to paint it. I guess I just want to know what I have to do to have a successful swap. I know I have to get a driveshaft fabricated already but everything else I am completely lost on. Please help

First thing is to bust out the tape measure and see if your spring perches are in the right place.

I put a fabricated 9" in my '88 super cab with aftermarket disc brakes. You may want to look at a 4-link or ladder bar setup, especially if you plan to do any drag racing, etc... They make weld-on and bolt-on versions of both. I went with a weld on, adjustable ladder bar kit & my ranger really grabs the pavement on take offs. I also installed a Wilwood disc brake kit, which bolts onto your exsisting 9" axle housing along with an adjustable Wilwood proportioning valve for the rear brake system.
