Shop messed up.. maybe?

The cam synchro is just a distributor with one single tooth to pass by the sensor on top. A cheap one may not last as long, but as long as it's in position it should work fine. Unless the single tooth is somehow machined wrong and has a large air gap to the sensor.

ok so i finally timed it and had the battery disconnected to reset the CEL, went for a hard drive and it still engages reverse a little rough like it did before. The light hasn't come back on, and it does kind of feel like it runs better but I don't know. I guess we'll see

UPDATE🤬: it seems to be out of time. Again. When I timed it, I didn't tighten the synchronizer enough so it shifted and caused severe timing issues. So I decided to experiment and put the housing way off and tightened it thinking that would be fine.. well im still running into a bit of rough running. I lined up the marks to get it on #1 TDC Compression and took off the synchronizer sensor and it was 180° out.
Any ideas on how this could be? Can I just take out and time it again? I did try that but for some reason it's stuck in there. The screw is out, the housing spins in there but won't come out.

That sounds like something jammed up that shouldn’t, unfortunately… I’m not sure what to suggest other than playing with it and trying to get it to free up and come out so you can examine the situation

Standing in front and looking at engine, #1 is the first cylinder on your left. Or passenger side closest to radiator. 180 either means you used the wrong cylinder, or was at exhaust and not compression.

You might be fighting the o-ring trying to remove it. Actually, I bet you didn't have it seated all the way down when you first installed it. It was probably smashing the o-ring up and once the engine got hot, it settled down and seated.

Definitely the right cylinder, and I'm pretty confident in it being compression and not exhaust. I'm going to check real quick and take a picture of the balancer markings.

That sounds plausible, but how do I get it out? I tried pliers, maybe I wasn't trying hard enough I guess I don't know.

Just lost my whole freaking essay.

In "Checked 8-31" is where it looked like it was out of time.(I turned the synchro housing around to try and put the sensor on so it would be in time but it wouldn't fit and I forgot to turn it back.) I SWEAR I had it all lined up just the same then. The other picture and video are from today.

On the crank pulley you will see my friend's mark which from this thread I learned is one tooth off. I need a separate flashlight to show you but the tooth lined up to the crank sensor is marked TDC. Okay never mind the video won't go it's too big. I could do an email if y'all want.

at TDC compression the window should be pointed at the bolt and the tab should be centered in the window.
they both point at the hex bolt that holds the clamp down. (the big washer)
you can find/verify TDC by placing a long thin screwdriver in the plug hole. the piston will hit it a very close to TDC.
no, that won't tell which stroke it's on.
if the housing rotates spray some WD40 on it and work back 'n forth a lot. it should eventually loosen and pull out.

however,,,
if the "today" pic is at TDC compression that's close enough for the tab, just rotate the housing to center the tab in the window.
the most important item is the tab must be centered in the window. pointing the housing at the bolt is mostly just where the sensor and wiring
are in a convenient location.

Thid id cool n all but why would it have shifted so much?
