Hi all, now that I have my steering issues complete its time to replace the shocks. By the looks of them they are original. Called Midas and was quoted $130.00 per axle witch would be $260.00 complete. Now I will say im no mechanic but the install looks and I stress "looks" do able. Better shocks will run me around $160.00. So the ? is do I try this myself or spend the $100 and have the shop do it? I have all basic tools and a hand torch.:dunno: Thanks, Mike

I paid 16.99 a piece for my F150 shocks from Autozone. It depends on whether you want to climb under there and do it or not.

you can get crap monro shocks from autozone for about $12 a piece. two nuts to take off. REALLY easy to do. the only thing is on the front, the lower stud almost always snaps off if they are rusty. wire brush the threads first and use pb blaster on them and pray for the best.

the front shocks are a pain to do. I have an 01, and there is no way I could have gotten all 4 off without a lift. Hell, the guys at the shop where I used to work at (where I brought the truck) had a helluva time getting the oldies off. It set me back 50 bucks to get all 4 swapped out. the shocks that went in are Bilsteins... rough ride with them in there... should hold up for towing though.

yea you gotta lift up the front pretty high to get the fronts out but meh you can do it

Getting them back in isn't very fun either. Well, it was for me because I was laughin the whole time watchin my ole boss giving it all he's got.

This may be the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with your Ranger. Shocks are usually simple to change. Pay attention to safety and give it a whirl. It just feels good to do some things yourself.
