here in the next week im going to start ordering parts for my lift, gonna get the chevy leafs from my girlfriends dads jy, gonna order the jeep xj coils from jegs.

but im worried about shocksin the tech library its noted that skyjacker h7057 are used, upon looking them up they look short to me? maybe its the picture.

i looked at the rancho 9000s which seem long, but are also 111$ each, and the skyjacker h7057 are only 37.99 each.

id like to keep it around 50$ per shock maybe a little higher. in this world you get what you pay for.

has anyone used any other shocks? any input. im mostly worried about length of shocks. id hate to buy them just for them to be my limiting factor.

Order shocks for a 4" XJ lift from Rusty's offroad. The tubing is right around 16" long with around a 12" travel

Look for shocks that have a minimum of 10" travel (12" preferred) to get the most out of those coils. Chances are you'll need to upgrade (extend) your mounts for those.

I'm running single Bilstein 5125s on the front of my BII. I've been wanting to put duals on it though, but haven't gotten around to building the mounts for them yet (it's a tad soft, though not uncontrollable by any means).

I would advise cycling the suspension to see how long the shocks need to be first. If you end up having to double shock it the cost then starts to be more important. I had to double shock mine at both ends (mainly because the roads around here are crap) or it was like riding in a boat. I disconnect one pair at each end for off road use.

thanks for the reply guys. i havent looked at all the shock options but its a little dissapointing not finding many shocks for a decent price thats 12 inches.

as far as like riding in a boat, im not to concerned with that. this rig will only be driven during camping trips and wheeling trips. the top of the mountain is 20 miles away

You might also want to look at getting Rough Country's N2.2 series shocks. I love the ride quality of them. REAR Shock for a 6" YJ (wrangler) lift is perfect for the front of a 4" lifted ranger/bII with F250 shock towers.

I went with 4 bilstien 5150 10" shocks up front. I got them on ebay for 150$ slightly used. 10" shock travel is more than enough unless you want to go hardcore. They are both 170/60 on the valving. Finally drove it today for about 20 feet. But it rode real smooth with the xj coils. You would want the single stiffer shock if you can only get one per side. From what I have read the softer ones are made to be used with dual shock setups.

I run Tuff County SX8000 series.

10.5" up front and 14" rear.

I have some more ideas for this thread. My truck is a 1994 Short bed Single Cab 4.0. Manual everything. The 6" Skyjacker XJ Springs, in the TTB 4" bracket holes are giving me 6" of lift... Steering is way to high with these springs. I have the extreme drop pitman arm also. I am thinking about trying 4.5" XJ springs. That may flatten my steering out. Extended cab truck would probably be fine with the 6" springs.

This place has 4.5" Xj springs on sale for 77$. Ordering them now hope they work better than the 6" Skyjackers.

You should modify (or swap out) your upper coil mounts so that it supports the spring better. It letting the coil bow out like that isn't good for the spring.

Its the lower spring mount. The driver side spring has very little bow in it. I did both buckets the same way, its coming back apart this weekend and the 4.5" springs are going in. The coil buckets hold the springs tight enough that I have to twist them in with a pipe wrench. I would like to put a ubolt around the spring at the 2nd coil from the top but i cant see a good way of being able to get it in there
