I was rotating my tires the other day and noticed one of the shocks is leaking pretty badly so I've decided to replace the bastards...

Anyone have recommendations? It's 2WD and I keep it on the pavement and drive it like an old man, but would like to improve it- as I know the factory ones are junk. Only got 58K out of this set b-4 they started leaking.

Please keep your advice simple, i.e., I'm not going to put air shocks or anything like that on there, or lift it higher or any of that- just looking for better than factory replacements.

Thanks in advance!

why not look into a set of bilsteins, they may be expensive but so far on my 2007 i love them. they have proven themselves time and time again for me and wheeling my level II.

either bilsteins or procomps, ranchos are pretty good too or so i've heard.

if you don't care about the price, just do a little research on some aftermarket shocks.
in regards to getting OEM length shocks, i'm not sure about procomp or rancho but i'm sure bilstein have them.

oh here ya go, just did a quick read up

KYB or Monroe would probably be the best choice for an oem replacement. both are quality parts and both have manufacturer warrantys against leaks or other defects.

KYB, had them for over a year now and love them. Didn't cost me an arm and a leg either.

How do you drive an old man? Forget it; I don't really want to know.

For on-street driving alone, I'd suggest some high pressure gas-charged shocks.

kyb, rancho or bilstein, i would reccomend the rancho 5000 series for how you drive, the are like $50 each i think the last time i looked, you can go with monroe if you want but get the higher end i get a lot of defect returns at advance auto parts on the cheaper ones.

Monroe Sense-a-Trac's are good (and reasonably priced)
Monroe Reflex are better, but more money.

I like the Bilsteins I have on my 4x4, but I stay mostly on pavement too.

The bilsteins cost more EACH than you are likely to spend on an entire set
of factory replacements.

And BTW, on most Rangers Monroe Sense-A-Trac ARE the factory replacements.
That's what my Ranger came with from the factory.
So did two of my three Bronco2's, as well as both explorers I parted out.

Thanks on all the advice so far...

MAKG, I drive like an old man because I AM an old man...

I've always had good luck with Monroe sense-a-tracs for street use.

i have rancho's and i like them.

I had Rancho 5000's.....much better than stock IMO.

I just got rid of them and spent the extra money on a set of Bilsteins. I love them so much, I want to get a set for my '05 Stang GT, aftrer it gets dropped of course.

I was hesitant about Bilstein due to the price. However, it was well worth it.
