Just wondering what sort of street mileage people are seeing from the OEM front shocks? My truck is a 2004 FX4, I purchased it used about a year ago and it has 73,xxx miles on it.

No complaints from the suspension, bouncing it seems to have it come back to rest in 1 1/2 to 2 bounces, but just wondering, at this mileage should I wait or replace?

FYI it is a daily driver, street use only, no off road. Thanks!

Shocking that not one of the 25 people who read this have change the front shocks at any mileage and could not say if they were well worn or serviceable still.

If anyone else is interested, they were pretty well shot, not leaking, but worn far past prime, I replaced them both, about a 2 hour job. The rears seem fine still, which doesn't surprise me if this truck wasn't used for hauling or towing.

I bought my truck last year and I haven't replaced the shocks since i bought it yet, cuz Im saving up for a lift, But they say you should replace them every 50,000 miles. Didn't really answer your Question, but since nobody said anything, I tried:icon_bounceblue:

I have 183,000 miles on my truck, and the front shocks are original.

At 267,000 I replaced my front shocks. They definitely needed it. This is a 17 year old truck. I couldn't tell you its maintenance history. I've had it 6 months so far for the amount of abuse heaped on it by previous owners its pretty good.

The front coil springs are also sagging slightly its throwing off my camber and eating the front tires.. its on the do to list. As well as the rear leafs they pretty flat with nothing in the back.

I lease a new truck every three years through my company and don't keep them long enough to need new shocks. :D
IMO, HD gas shocks are good for about 50k to 60k. After that the ride quality starts to deteriorate. Depends on your driving habits too.
I did put new shocks on my old '05 Sport Trac at 12k because the stockers (on Sport Tracs) are way too soft to be safe.
