Has anyone heard of how hard it would be to put a 91 Taurus 3.0 sho motor in a 92 4.0 ranger? those motors are 220 horse plus its still a v6? I was also thinking of the 3.4 sho v8?????

good question, since its a taurus swap a lot of swapping is involved (intake and exhaust manifolds). i dont see why it wouldnt work but the prob w/ the sho 3.0 is the head setup is from yamaha w/ a belt drive ohc setup if im not mistaken, the belt would go out and kablooey there goes the motor. another problem is how many are there left in existance, since they were a limited model and half the owners had the timing belt issue there prob arent many of them around. but if you happen to find one and want to do the swap go for it. i think the blocks are the same so a 3.0 tranny out of a ranger 2 or 4wd should bolt up, a 4.0, 2.8 or 2.9 tranny will not work on a vulcan block, so if you have a 4.0 youll have to swap trannys. as for the v8 im not sure about that, you should repost that question in the v8 swap/other engine swaps forum where youll prob get more bites to the thread since your fishing for information if you will. other ppl that are more informed than me can either back this up or prove me wrong on the block being dif, i wouldnt know ive never torn one out, but i found out in a heartbeat that no other tranny but a 30 will work on a 30. cheers on the project!:icon_cheers:

there is someone who is doing this swap. he has pics up in the "under construction" thread. I forget his name i'll try to find it for you.

well your biggest problem will be finding a trans to mount it to, also the motor is transverse, the throtle bodies sit over the trans. but you might be able to 180 the intake manafold, also exhaust headers, splicing the harnes for ranger gauges.

it would be a big up hill battle, but that would be baddd a$$$$$$

The 3.0L SHO has the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the Vulcan so the transmission is only an issue of finding a Ranger 3.0L trans. The SHO's intake manifold will need to be reversed. Headers/manifold will most likely be custom made.

its already been done.

3.0 vulcan trans works.

3.0 and 3.2 SHO's are non-interference so a broken timing belt is no big deal.

the intake is symmetrical and can be flipped.

the 3.4 v-8 is crap. it IS interference and has a habbit of spinning cam sprokets, thus junking the motor. the 3.0/3.2 is more modifiable with better aftermarket support, and more reliable.
