this mornig i start my 2000 ranger 3l auto i shift in reverse back up then i try to shift in forward the shifter will only go as far as neutral if i get underneath i can shift in drive and then i can reshift back to park using shifter but will not go in drive if i try again what is causing this? shifter cable or steering collum? :icon_bounceblue:

From your post I can't tell if you are saying the transmission is working/shifting correctly from under the truck; but, not from the drivers seat.

If that is the case, it could be loose bolts under the dash that holds the shifter together (common) or a bad cable between the shifter and the trans (not as common).

from under on the transmission i can shift all gears but from inside i can only get reverse and neutral i guess i ll have to pull down the collum to see if its the tube or the cable is it a big job ?

Update ; its the bolts holding the bracket on the shift tube one is missing while the other is loose as hell anyone knows what size bolt goes there (5 mm , 6 mm)?and does the dealer have them or i have to search ealsewhere ? thanks

take the loose bolt to an Ace hardware :D

its just i didn t want to remove the bolt cause its going to be a pia to realign evreything under there
