Shifter help

Hope this is in the right section...
I finally got hold of a shifter for my swap. It is from a '90 Aerostar. It is neat, it is angled more tword the driver hip for more of a "sportsy" feel. The only problem is that I can't get the stick to separate from the stub. Any ideas how to do this without damage? I was able to remove the nut, however the stud stayed in place. The bushing is completely usless. So is the small metal...spacer...washer...thin piece of metal between the bushing and the pivot ball. I thought about grooving one end and then using a big screw driver than just replacing it with a new bolt. Thanks, MJ

Ummm... The Aerostar lever is "keyed" differently.

The Key on an '88-97 Ranger shift lever is at the front
On an aerostar shifter it's on the back (the aerostar essentially
uses an F-150 shift lever)

and the "stub lever" is longer....

Hmm, well that ain't no good... I was under the understanding that the Aerostar used the same tranny. Explains why it was in there (got it from a Pick-N-Pull) while all of the BII's and Rangers were gone. Thought I got lucky. Thanks for the info AD. Any one need a Shifter from an Aerostar? Back to the drawing boared. MJ

Welp, I FINALLY got the right shifter assembly! I have done set it in the tranny and everything works great. Came out of an '91 Mazda Navajo. Now all I need is time to do my swap... MJ

I know this is long dead but I have an update to this. I popped out the locating pin out of the Aerostar shifter so I could put the BII's stub on it using just the stub bolt for mounting. It went on and in neutral it showed promise. 1st gear the handle sits amost behind the steering wheel, and 3rd you punch the radio. Yeah, that didn't work out at all!

now that this thread has been raised from the dead I have a comment, I'd KILL for a set of clutch/brake pedals to convert my Aerostar to a manual transmission.

My Aerostar is a 1994, I think the pedals would need to come from a 1992-up.
