Hey guys so just picked up my first ford, a 93 Ranger, 2wd 5 speed, reg cab, reg box, 4.0L.

My shifter is really loose though, I work at a junkyard so parts aren't to hard to come by and I sat in another 93 with a 4 banger and the shifter was awesome, felt real nice and smooth, I looked at the base and they both seem to be the same, how do I know what tranny I have and how can I fix this problem?

up in the home page there is a heading called resources that has a pull down with all sorts of tech info including pictures.

welcome aboard

I believe that those are both M50Ds the bushing around the stem gets hard and brittle breaks and falls out.I just ordered a new pair from Transmission Exchange in Oregon google them for a phone no.You don't need a part no but you should make sure what tranny you have. They have a professional staff easy to work with about ten bucks to my door.

It is imperative to change the oil in the trans as those plastic bits from the disintegrated bushings can and will get into places you really don't want them to go....

JUST putting new bushings in? Like sex on the beach, it seems like
a great idea, but sand gets into the damndest places...
