Hello everyone, well I finally did a 4.0 swap, though it took a lot longer then i wanted... trying to do a swap when you already don't have any time to commit to a swap pretty hard haha.... The new job been taking up a lot of my time...and the gf.... she doesn't understand that without my ranger...I'm half the man! haha enough jokes, A few things... I don't have much time to look around for certain things but I cant find any useful info so far, so far the only things that wrong is, my Voltage gauge act funky, so I bought a new set of gauges but I don't know where to run the wire for the new voltage gauge any help? secondly, No Air blows...No heat, No A/c, no defrost, nothing.... I have seen a few threads where they say a part becomes rusted out..but I cant locate that part, or I am over looking it, anyone with pictures or a more thorough explanation would be nice... or any ideas. I am pretty sure everything grounded and connected right.

Off topic: The 4.0 swap went pretty straight forward, and she runs BEAUTIFULLY, I am also using the FM146 tranny atm, till I can locate a 4.0 4x4 tranny to use. They are hard to come by in Georgia... or at-least in my area. And the power of the 4.0 is freaking ridiculous compared to the 2.9. My biggest issue of the whole swap was deciding to keep the A/C...but then I remember I live in Georgia where every day 100 degrees...haha! :icon_cheers:

I'm finishing up a 4.0 swap too. As for the voltage gauge, I would check for a loose or a corroded ground wire. Not sure where the ground for that runs to, but I would start there. My f-150 had a corroded ground wire on the gauge and it would work intermittently and show low voltage a lot.

Is the switch for the a/c blower bad? That would be the simple place to start checking that.

IT's all about TORQUE

The difference in power between a 2.9 and a 4.0 is only 20hp which really isn't much.

The difference is torque, the 2.9 makes 170ft/lb and it peaks at 2600rpm

The 4.0 makes 225ftlb at about the same rpm.

the difference is that the 4.0 is making 200ft/lb before it gets to 1100rpm
and is making over 200ft/lb all the way to 4200rpm.

So unlike the 2.9 which is kinda peaky and has never been a
good "truck" engine, the 4.0 was essentially designed as a
"Truck engine", so it's hardly suprising that it does a better job.

The only thing needed to convince the most die-hard 2.9 true believer
that the 2.9 has little remaining potential is to make them drive a 4.0
for a week and then make them switch back.

The 2.9 feels "frisky", but "feeling" and "reality" are often miles apart.

Yes. i was a Die hard 2.9 guy... and I was really nervous about the swap too, the most mechanical thing Ive ever done it changing a clutch really. but the swap was pretty straight forward... And the Torque difference is just ridiculous, it like going from a 302 to a 383 stroker... AND! I gained better Gas mileage! How ofter can you swap a bigger engine in and say that! haha.

As for the A/C, everything should work, though... things do have a way of stop working after sitting for a while... it just what the best way to diagnostic it without going crazy pulling stuff out. :dunno:
