OK, I am going to start from the beginning. I went to a junkyard and found a 1988 Ford Ranger with all the power steering mounts and brackets on it so I took those off along with the gearbox and the hoses. That is the first two pictures . I went to another junkyard here in Phoenix, looking for some other parts and happened to stumble upon this 1989 that still had the power steering bracket on it. The rest of the engine had been scavenged, but this was still left. What I noticed between the two is they are completely different mounting brackets. They were both 2.3l and on the 1988 there is a tapped hole on the block for one mounting bolt that my 91 does not have. On the 1988 mount there is also a 2nd heavy stamped mounting bracket that bolts to the main mount and then bolts lower on the side of the block. the 1989 mount has bolt holes that will all line up with holes in the block and the aluminum is formed to miss the coil pack. The 88 has a stationary tensioner pulley, and I believe you move the alternator around to put tension on the belt. The 89 has a tensioner pulley where you actually use the pulley to put the tension on the belt, but from the pictures I can find via part numbers from a Ford dealership and then just researching they do not look anything like the part numbers you gave me. The last picture is the one of a gates tensioner ( no longer made)that is supposed to go with the 1989 power steering mount. The funny thing is is the dealership lists both of these mounts for this truck. When I had first asked the parts guy at the dealership to pull me up a photo of the proper power steering mount for a 91 ranger he sent me a photo of the first power steering pump bracket which is actually the one that doesn’t really fit on 100% like it should utilizing all the holes the ones that are there actually do have holes in the block to mount. It’s just one of them that does not have a hole in the block. The second power steering bracket has three bolt holes for the block that the block on the truck actually does have to bolt it like it should be. The downside is is this belt tensioner is missing that’s why I’m trying to find it because it seems like it would be the one to use over the first one.
The last 2 pictures you can see the difference . The one on the left is the 1988 and the one on the right is the 1989.
