Well I just yanked the trans out of my 88 ranger supercab with 2.9. Its a M5OD R1 and I just cant for the life of me remember what these two sensors are.

The red tipped sensor on the left (drivers side) and the sensor on the right (passenger side) with two green wires. I am not sure if one of them related to the vehicle HAVING to be in neutral or with the clutch depressed to start... if so I want to get rid of it.

IIRC, the red tip on is for reverse. I can remember what the other ones for.

The NNS is on the pedal. If you want to bypass that just unhook it.

One sensor (the red tipped one) is for the reverse lights.

The one with the wires is the NSS, Neutral SENSE switch and has NOTHING to do with the starter safety, it's purpose is to tell the computer that the trans is in neutral to defeat the normal throttle closed idle strategy that is employed with the engine in gear.

The switch that controls the starter safety that requires the clutch pedal to be pushed is up onder the dashboard.

It is called the clutch multifunction switch.

DO NOT cut/splice any wires, first you go to a junkyard and get the "shorting bar" that is installed in the connector for the multifunction switch out of any AUTO trans 1988-94 Ranger, Bronco2 or Explorer, then simply plug the cable for the clutch multifunction switch to that connector rather than the switch.

and if you desire you can change it BACK at some later date...

The oldest manual I could come up with is for a 1992 and the disassembly section for the top cover does show the switch on the right as being a neutral switch.

Thank you for the advice folks. Another quick question I have, is it possible to just get the collar/sleeve for the clutch line? mine is missing about 1/4 of the collar
