Selecting an aftermarket electric fan for my Ranger

What year did they start using electric fans, 04? Mine is a 96 with the big ass radiator. That sumbitch took over 3 gallons to fill when I replaced it.

I'll try to get some photos of the Saab version tomorrow.

Okay, I am willing to give the Taurus fan another shot. Can some one please post what I will require exactly? What year and model Tarus, what all will I need fromt he wrieing harness, and what will I need from the parts store? I prefer to keep as many OE parts as possible. The more I can get off the car I get the fan from the better.

I hate to be a dick but if you use the SEARCH.... http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Summer2003/ElectricFanInstall.htm Plus if you follow your own thread you should already almost know.

How in the hell did I miss that? I searched and found a bunch is stuff about fans. But it was such a mixture of information and parts I was not sure which information I should fallow. That is another reason I was looking toward the aftermarket. Thanks for the link, that will clear up some confusion.

I just read the article and it is for a high dollar aftermarket fan. I can get everything I need for that for less than half at a parts store. That is if i make my own fan shroud. If I am going to give a Taurus fan another shot I require different information.

It's not that complicated... All you need is a temp sensor, a relay, fuse holder, a fan, and some wire. Of course some good hillbilly fabrication skills come in handy. The most difficult part is where to install the temp sensor.

I know I need to find one from a 3.8, but what year? I have seen different fans in 3.8 cars.

You can use just about any fan. Larger diameter the better. You can look in Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes.... All you have to do is design a mounting set up or a shroud. Just remember a puller is better than a pusher. I have a junk 96 Cavalier in the back and I think that the fan off it would work even though the fan is only about 11" diameter.

Get out the tape measure and head to the junk yard.

Oh my I have done a lot of that. Becuase I could not find a decent taurus fan I was pulling and measuring others. It got old quick.

C'mon man.... You are an RBV guy. Where's your spirit of adventure? :D

No need to pull the fans.... Measure the radiator. then the fan diameter... From there look at the mounts and see if you can mod it. This is an easy to do mod..... If you think this is tough try an engine swap.
