I feel silly for posting this without a picture. but its got me in gear for a explorer build anx i want to read a build thread.

Today i saw in lewiston idaho. a lifted explorer. sas out front. i believe 35s. Chopped out back. had custom tranny tunnel made of what looked like black diamond plate. a custom shifter with i believe 2 bends in it. making me thing its not an m5od and it had a floor shifter for the 4x4. Tbh it looked like the f150 set up. it had no doors. It had tube doors made of square tubing. the fenders were cut with flimsy rubber home made fender flares. it was green on top and a dark color on bottom. The back hAtch was welded in the usual way but i.beleive the glass was missing. not sure on bumpers and winches

only got a glimpse of it once. and i CREEPED by it.

So any one have a build thread? It looks like ortotm material and i always vote and i dont remember ever seeing it. nor have i seen an explorer in awhile.

Sorry for the typos. this phone is being a pita and wont let me edit without deleting everything

Haven't seen it, I've saw several Jeep Grand Cherokee's done that way though. Kind of look ridiculous IMO pointless. Go through all that trouble should have just bought a truck in the first place.

There's all sorts of things that you can do on the older model explorers because it was so easy to swap in parts from Rangers or Bronco 2's to make a custom trail rig. Solid axles are always a nice mod for a true offroad rig, but if you really aren't going to be wheeling a solid axle isn't exactly needed, its nice but not truly needed, I've wheels IFS trucks a little bit and as long as you are somewhat careful you won't hurt anything but if you are jumping the rig its going to break IFS components pretty easily.

The only build threads of this type I've seen are for the same procedure on a Bronco 2 turning it into a mini-pickup by chopping the top off the back and building a cab behind the front seats. http://www.broncoiicorral.com/library/choptop.htm The explorer idea may be pretty close to the same.

Ive seen quite a few done like this one. was just unaware of one in my area. only the 2 sas.explorer iblve seen here. was unaware the rbv population was growing so much.

Its growing a lot, people are really starting to turn back to these older Bronco's, Bronco 2's and Rangers, they're finding out these new trucks are crap when it comes to trying to modify them, work on them, and diagnose electronic gremlins.

Yeah. for me it was the ttb over ifs and the 4.0 over the 2.4 or 3.0 which had no power. plus damn near every offroader drives a damn toyota. and chevy guys hate ford. so its irritating to see one pass them :-)

I've seen this rig running around moscow every once in a while. looks purpose built for crawling or mudding. It runs like shit though the thing ticks like the tourettes guy. ill see if I can find the pictures i took of it.

I agree that everyone drives a yota, but there's a reaon, and that reason is why I now drive a 3rd gen 4runner haha. they're truly capable vehicles with their pro's and cons just like rbvs

Yeah i never got a chance to hear it. i went back later to snap some photos but it was gone. i like seeing and or reading of built explorers because there not so common

Its a cool rig, but When you get a chance to inspect it its a hack job haha. Function over form I guess.

I try to stay away from that forum cuz ill.sit here and read for days

No, it is because it hurts less when you beat the tar out of a $500 beater than your much more expensive dd.

Very few early 90's and older vehicles dd'd around here. A couple toys, most are either beaters or driven by people that can't afford anything newer.

There is a blue one and a tan one and then my green one round up all the first generation Rangers I have seen in town semi-regularly for the last couple years. I was afraid the blue one had left us because I hadn't seen it for about a year but it popped up again about a month ago. BII's are scarcer.

There is a huge SAS first generation Explorer that is out and about once in a great while, may have a V8. Not sure what the deal is but while it has plenty of lift it is only running maybe at most 31's... looks goofy and I have never seen it without a for sale sign in the window.

Lots of 90's vehicles here, I am starting to see more and more bronco II's and first and 2nd Gen rangers. But I see tons more 2nd Gen explorers than 1st Gen.

Sent from, wait how did this get here?

That must be where they all went. They were really common when I got mine 12.5 years ago and now mine is just about the last one in town. :annoyed:
