HELP!!
Just got my first Ranger , and having issues with security/keyless entry...
ive checked and did the ignition key turn five (5) times and my door locks cycled ...

so went and got my remotes to program into system, NOW the five key ignition turn does NOTHING will not cycle my locks
(as stated before it did) so I know it worked before ,

so help is needed..... I have car knowledge been doing my own repairs for years, ive checked fuses, that's a given!! ive checked the door buttons they work fine locking unlocking the doors, the security light on the dash (theft light) WAS working and now it is not flashing as it had before ..... what am I missing??

cant program my remotes until the locks cycle...

HELP this first time Ranger owner out

Thanks Bob

It's not five, it's eight.

I don't understand everything you are saying.

The remote key fob programing part I get. But, you only have ten seconds to get the locks to pop by cycling the key the eight times between off and either ACC or Run. I said run or acc because my owners manual says run; but, if you google it, you will find they say acc (heck, maybe either will work). You leave it in either run or acc, not off. Then you have 20 seconds to program the fobs (all of them). If you miss the ten or 20 second window none of the key fobs will work and you have to start over because by cycling the key until the locks popped erased the earlier programing.

The PATS system (red blinking diode) problem has nothing to do with the key fobs. Two separate systems and two very different procedures. First I did not know a 96 ranger had PATS, I thought it was not offered until 98. Anyway, if you have PATS and the truck starts it is working. It should blink slowly without the key. When you turn the key to run, the diode should glow steady for a few seconds and then go out. If you try to use a non-programed key it will blink very fast and the truck will not start.
