The latch on my '88's drivers side seatbelt quit working yesterday. The spring loaded button in the middle stays depressed, so the tongue that is supposed to stay clipped in doesn't anymore. So the questions, Is there any way to pull the thing apart 'cause I can't see how to do it? Do I need to start heading to the JY to find another one?

I would just go and get another one. It's a torx bolt, of course...
I've replace a couple. At one point, I used a receiver from an old genI on my '97, so most years should work for you.

I'd get another one. You don't want to attempt to fix something that is there there to save your ass. Your life is worth more than the price of a seat belt buckle.

OK - will do. Next questions, for now can I use one of the ones from the jump seats in the back? Or will by seatbelt idiot light and chime stay on?

The seat belt idiot light is only wired to the drivers' seat latch. If you use one from the jump seats, it won't have the electric circuit built in.

I don't know whether the idiot light is Normally Open or Normally Closed. If it is Normally Open, disconnecting the electrical wiring will disable the idiot light. If it is normally Closed, You will have to rig a jumper wire between the two contacts in the electric plug that goes to the latch.
Either way, easy fix.

Ok I thought I'd close this out. Turns out that the jump seat seat belts are long, like the one for the front middle bench. I pulled my latch out, but there isn't any way to get into it. I lubed it with some dry lubricant and at least I can get the belt to catch sometimes now. It looks like there's a spring in there that just gave up the ghost.

So, Hi Ho Hi Ho, to the JY I go.

Take a T50 torx bit, a long extension and a good ratchet with you..... The bolts have Loc-tite on them and they are in there pretty good!!!!

No kidding. I found that out when I removed mine. Never seen orange loc-tite before. It's like "We're not gonna weld this, but it'll be close" At least I already had a t-50 with a 3/8" drive from moving my door striker plates around. If it were a chebby, it would have had some other weird size.
