Seat Belt Question

So one of my belt buckles are on the fritz and I'm in the middle of swapping it. The bolt that holds the buckle and goes through the body spins in place and I'm debating on cutting it out and removing it.

However, When I look under the truck. I see this. What exactly is this? It looks like some kind of ground and they're thick cables. The bolts go down inside of this so I'm not exactly sure how i can ever get it tight again if I cut the bolt and replace it since it goes into, what I assume, is a speed nut inside of this thing that has the cables on it.

That's to keep the cab from flying off in a super hard front end collision. Its a cable that wraps around a frame crossmember

Huh. I don't think my truck has those.

Some do, some don't. Now I wish I knew why......

My 91 has em

lol, it would be odd if you don't have them knowing what they are now.

Honestly, It doesn't look like much to hold the cab on.

My 91 has them too. I don't know where I got the idea, probably just made it up, but I think it's a way of making sure that trucks don't get pieced together re; vin numbers.:dunno:

They are a PITA to remove . . .

That they are...I think I had to torch the one on my 88...and I just noticed one on my 96 that needs to be cut...I think I will just try to cut the sheet metal that they connect to rather than trying to cut through the cable...probably the hardest metal on the whole truck...

How much hassle is it to swap seat belts? Mine is shot.

Not hard at all...as long as the bolt hole is still attached to the cab...I tried taking some out of the 92 and they would NOT budge...so I may have to use the ones from the 96...my 88 driver side does not retract properly and I've tried cleaning and spraying it...only time it actually stiffens up is when I put my seatbelt on and then open the door to try to dump my coffee cup or whatever and the seat belt tightens up as if it doesn't want me to leave...

I get kinda claustrophobic in these relationships...

my 07 has 6 bolts, that are about 1/2" or so, THAT'S IT! other than some wiring and a couple really small gauge braided ground straps

Speaking of ground straps (oh, and the 96 doesn't have the strap from body to frame...the 88 and 92 did though)...I found a bunch of rotted ones on the 96...I think about three of them were just sort of hanging there by one end...not sure if I should replace them or just tell the truck "You're grounded"...until it behaves...

You can tell your truck its grounded but will it really listen? Maybe you should take it`s allowance also:-)
