STILL SEARCHING FOR MY HUSBANDS FATHERS TRUCK!

I posted this across many subreddits in August 2022. My husband and I have been married a year now, and I got a feeling to try and find his dad's truck one more time. Carfax, beenverified, etc came up with no leads and I would love to be able to find this truck.

If anyone has a way where they can find any info on this truck, please PM me. The last owners who purchased in summer of 2022 paid $10,000, and we are willing to pay much higher than that to bring his dads truck home to him.

I have the VIN #

Searching for deceased father-in-laws truck : 1988 Ford Ranger

My fiancé and I found out that his father's truck - who passed away in 1998 - was sold at AutoCenter in Herculaneum in July/August 2022. We have been searching for this truck and I have not seen the registration update on Carfax and the dealership manager did notify them about a week after they purchased it of our situation and they were not interested in selling. They bought it for $10k so I'm assuming they probably bought it to fix up seeing as the registration hasn't updated.
If anyone has any advice on how to locate this, I would love your assistance. We would be willing to purchase this from them for more than they paid, or promise to purchase it if they do want to fix it up and sell.
This would be an amazing gift to my husband as he was 10 years old when his father passed and has nothing of his to remember him by.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that it happens.

Damn thats a gorgeous truck.

Good luck in your searches

Would someone like a private investigator have more access to things that would help track a vehicle by vin?

You may never find it.
I would suggest a more subtle approach than "No price is too much!", and even suggest taking down those posts and starting over
I would start by going to the last place you know that it was registered, most likely at your states capitol. Get copies of anything you can get, and hope its' registration in another state or place is noted somewhere
Best of luck with it

Have you already been to the last place you know of that sold it?

Good luck on your search, hope you find it soon at godspeed.

The text says 4x2. In the picture the truck has locking front hubs so 4x4.

I see you have the Vin# , You can ask your insurance company or the police station nearest you to help find the registered owner, It couldn't hurt to ask them, as well as the other member stated, trying a private investigator.

They probably do know more tricks, but I would still imagine a friend or friend of a friend may well do the same search for someone in their spare time.

I bought my Ranger from a young lady who was dispatch for Davidson county sheriffs dept, who likely doesn't get a bunch of free time in a shift, but like a small town Barney Fife type place sometimes has far too much time on their hands.
They could check out tickets, fender benders, stuff like that I suppose

Yeah! Or you might just ask them :)

Yes that's also a great idea. As well as the insurance company and the local police dept.
