seal around hub

Just wondering why the rubber seal around my manual hubs keep getting trashed after one use. Like today I rotated my tires and both seals are fubared and Ford wants way to much for them so I end up making my own from a strand of rubber a pool place sells me. Just wondering if there is something am doing wrong or are they a one time deal.

you got to be careful to make sure that they are in the little grove when you put it back together. If not, they pinch/cut. I went to a hydraulic shop and bought a dozen of them for about $10.

RTV. I seal mine every time they come off.

i got sick of replacein the dang o-ring so now i use RVT.

if you are running no seal or noo rtv will that cause a hub to not stay locked

Yeah... I wanna know how do you figure that also? The seal has no play in how far the hub sits off the rotor face.

beacuse my hub locks but when i get on it in 4 hi like going up a wash it will un lock click click click click click bang sheese click the i get out of it and it locks back up
