Is this really good for engines? A mechanic friend suggested I put it in my ranger.

Yeah, it's good for any gasoline type engine. Stuff works great to clean your internal engine parts, carb, motor, and fuel lines. I do it every year! Get ready for the smoke! Do it outside on a breezy day if possible.

good stuff. lots of smoke and make sure to run some through both the vaccuum and the gas tank

be careful on engines w/ alot of miles on them if you are not careful you could wash down the cylinders and all of a sudden start burning oil like mad i know from experience just my two sense

does 135K count as a lot?

135k on a 99, i would think it isn't. but I'm use to driving trucks with over 100k in the first year.

The number of miles is not as important as how it was taken care of.

Has it had good air filters changed regularly, or did some kid put a K&N in it?

Has the oil been changed regularly, and has it had the recommended viscosity and a good filter?

I've seen a lot of high mileage engines that were just fine, as long as they were taken care of.

I wouldn't be afraid of the Seafoam, if it has been maintained properly, but i wouldn't go overboard on it.

Unless you're addressing a specific issue, it may be best to just clean the throttle body, and run a can of Seafoam in the gas. If the filter hasn't been changed, thn I'd plan on doing that after you do, though.

might not be an issue, but if it hasn't been done, its probably time anyway, so why tempt fate.
