Hi all.
I'm hoping you can help me with a noise I am hearing in a 2008 Ford Ranger FX4 (4.0 V6, manual transmission). Mileage is 50000km.
I'm not sure if it has done it since I bought it or not, but basically the scraping noise is only present in 1st and 2nd gear at low revs.It is a light scraping noise which sounds like it is coming from the right hand side of the vehicle, although after winding the window down I can't hear it any more.
Pretty sure it is a transmission noise, but I am mechanically challenged, so I could be wrong.
The noise happens with the clutch in or out, and disappears around 1500RPM, although that could just be the engine noise overriding it.
The noise also seems to lessen / practically disappear, after driving around for 10 minutes (once the vehicle warms up).
When I bought it I had all the fluids/oil replaced by the Ford dealer and they said everything was in great shape.
Is it a normal noise or is something more serious afoot here?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Also as soon as I shift into 3rd and above the noise is no longer present. But shifting back down to 2nd/ 1st the noise is back.
Cheers, John.
