I just converted my 87 Ranger to 4x4 with a manual BW1350 tcase and M5R1 tranny.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't scrap my BW1350 electric shift transfer case when I sell my a4ld and all my other metal this weekend? Like parts useful for in case something happens with my manual case or bolts that are unique to the case and useful?

Buy a doubler kit maybe. If you didn't break it then you won't break the manual shift either. You should be fine.

You can use some of the electric shift parts in a manual shift if need be.

thats one of those things I would personally keep on the shelf or something.

It's definitely worth keeping. Either a doubler down the road or just a spare, it will save you the trouble of digging through the Junkyard when you need one.

Yeah guess I'll keep it for parts.

There isn't enough aluminum there to justify dismantling it NOW
rather than later.

Right now the convenience of keeping all the pieces in one place is worth
more than the $7-$8 the case is worth as scrap.

Add to that the fact that the case neatly keeps the internals bathed in oil and away from water...

The input, planetary Hi-Lo shift pieces are all the same.
I['d tell you the front disconnect is the same but there
are a few variations over the years and your two t-cases may not be the same.

the chains front output sprocket, etc, are all the same,, so yeah there are parts there worth keeping but in practical terms not much breaks on those cases in the first place....

I tend to collect E-shift 13-54's because most are out of explorers and have the six-pinion planetary set, the planetary, shift dog and fork are all unique to the six pinion set, so you need a parts set.

as a last note, unless you have a torch or a lot of patience the main case will wind up going as "dirty aluminum" or "Ironey Aluminum" because the ring gear for the panetary is sometimes difficult to seperate from the case.

Agreed and keeping it as spare parts, thanks for the advice! I just have so many extra parts at the moment that it's hard to walk around em all.
