Scrap or Keep

I have an 89' Ranger 4X4 Ext cab 2.8L V6 with Mitsu 5sp, D28 & 7.5" 3.73.

I picked up a donor truck... 93' Ranger 4X4 4.0L V6 Mazda 5sp D35 & 8.8" 3.73s, with the sole purpose of stealing the engine and trans for the 4.0L conversion into my 89', then hauling it off to the scrap yard. But I am now asking myself if I should keep the axles for the inevitable D28 & 7.5 to D35 & 8.8 swap.

Question is are they worth saving for a rebuild (meaning pulling off the truck, and putting in the back of the garage where they may sit for a year or two)... or should I just scrap them and plan on finding some newer axles down the road. I've never done any axle work, and just don't know to much about them or how much each avenue would cost.

Here are some picks of the axles... They seem to be in decent condition, but the truck had so many squeaks and rattles it was hard to tell how they ran. The RH rear axle has some play in it.

Yeah, keep them. I certainly wouldn't scrap a good D-35 at least.

I agree, also keep those rear leaf springs, they're lift springs of some sort...

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The truck also came with another set of axles (same config) sitting in the bed... but they appear to be a bit worse then whats on the truck. I intended on scrapping those as well, but maybe Ill post them in the classifieds for next to nothing just to help any other Ranger enthusiast looking to do the same.

I do plan on keeping the leaf springs.
