School shooting in CT.

There sure is a lot of this going around these days. Why kids? Then again, why anyone. It seems so wrong that one person can affect so many lives on a whim. I don't mean it's wrong that one has the means to do so, but rather that someone could bring themself to do such a terrible thing. I don't know what to think, except to feel bad for all those affected, and wonder when and where it will happen next. I hate it when the people that do these things kill themselves. I would think if we had them alive we could diagnose the mental state of those capable of such an act, and maybe learn something that would help us prevent such things in the future.

I remember in high school most of us had rifles or shotguns in our trucks depending on which hunting season we were currently in. We never had any problems with gun violence, maybe because people knew that if one or a few people walked in and tried starting anything they were completely outnumbered by gun owners at the school.

You must be pretty old, my grandfather went to a single room country schoolhouse in the '40's and had to leave his faithful .22 at last house he passed by on his walk to school because the teacher didn't allow guns at school. He hunted on the return trip almost every day for rabits and squirrels...

I can't believe what the families are going through, especially this close to the holidays...

Not really, just live in a small country town. You can't do that anymore, but when I was in school guns in gun racks was normal no one ever said anything about it, and well its a farming and ranching town so it seemed like guns were just a normal everyday part of life.

It seems to me that the person who was equally guilty and as much the cause of this, was the mother! Her son had previous reported mental issues and he was living with her. What the hell was she doing with 4 pistols and a bulletproof jacket in the household with a nutcase? If you have someone that is unstable, the last thing you need around is them having access to guns.

As with wildbill where I grew up in Colorado everyone had a gun rack in their truck and generally had a .22, a 410, and a 30.06 in the back window and most had either a .22 or .38 revolver in the glove box. No ever even dreamed of using those guns against another person or student. We were just brought up differently back then that is all I can think. But you all are right why would a MOTHER feel the need to have 4 pistols and a bulletproof vest? Seems kind of strange to me.

My sentiments and prayers to the families involved in the tragedy and thanks and respect to the first responders for securing the area and giving comfort to those in need. Such a horrible tragedy happening this close to the holidays is simply not warranted.

Think about it Mark. No matter what else the man may be he is still a man and a parent above all else. He even said in his address to the media that he was not speaking as a President but as a parent.

True...I have never actually listened to the man speak previously but I could tell by his pauses and nervousness that this deeply affected him.

I pray that God guides him to a better way of dealing with this kind of event without causing more problems for other gun owners.

I didn't read the part about the person who did this or how he was able to access the weapons...the full story wasn't available last night when I was trying to find out more.

to asdm saying it was a cause of lack of parenting i think is bs. lots of people have lacked parenting. it all comes down to him being whacked in the head. if u were pissed off at the way you were raised, why shoot and kill all the other people. its completely sickenening. shooting and stabbing all those kids there is no reason for anyone to do that, especially trying to blame it on parenting.

My opinion, in sum, would be the shooters lack of moral parenting, lack of faith, sense of hopelessness, and certainly not right in the head. Add in the media, violence portrayed in films, tv, video games, mix it all up and there ya go.
Pray for all.

How about hiring some military veterans to be guards at their local schools? They're already highly trained for the job, and probably quite a few would even just volunteer, I know I would in a heartbeat especially if it meant knowing kids in school were safe.

I second that myself. I would be glad to do it.

Add in the media, violence portrayed in films, tv, video games, mix it all up and there ya go.

IMO I could not disagree with you more. The guy was mentally unstable and that's that. To point the finger at video games and movies is just ignorant. That is almost as bad as saying "I didn't mess up my pencil did."

^^^Sorry should have said law enforcement as well. I know they had on the news last night here in Idaho that the schools and law enforcement are always practicing and prepared for this type of activity, but in reality no one is ever prepared for something like this, you can train day and night and it still won't prevent these actions, its sad, you send you child to school to learn and they are killed at the one place you would think they would be safe. This country is not safe period doesn't matter where you live, work, travel, etc.

Yeah, MRanger I hear you. The environmental influences have to play a part though, as an already unstable individual is going to strike out according to what he knows or lives.
Reality is, for whatever reason these people act, the solution, if there is one, has not been found. So it continues.

I disagree it is best he shot himself. It would have been alot better if he popped the first cap into his own head. Lack of faith of any sort is more than likely the problem. The world is going mad and I prey that everyone finds a higher power of love just keep your powder dry. Put God back into everyday life and schools and in government only God can help the families the communities and the nation as a whole. In my humble opinion. Our constitution was written to protect the church from the state not to protect the state from the church. It`s all bass ackwards.

I'm NOT trying to be an ass, (I do Feel for them), BUT simply put, "PG 13", and food additives, does it every time.

As far as the entire town, did they need to have this happen ?? Hell NO, even one family ? Hell NO, but, it's somewhat like doing Crack & Heroin, the combined effect is worse than only one at a time... food additives...

G.

Actually I'll add "Peer Pressure" as well......, and the fact of "Parental Guidance", it's NOT that they are bad people, but the stress of "Today's World" is simply leaving the kids "Out in the open" for attack from shows that their brains are NOT ready to handle in the correct format.

Everyone is "Keeping up with the Jones's" and in the process, the kids are "left in the dust" to fend for them-self's...
