SB Chevy? pros cons-- ever been done before?

Yeah and the upper control arm really gives it away as a Gen 1 or 2, right?

Xcuse me>>>>>>>

=====================================
I didn't say that the front stub/clip hadn't been changed, or the whole frame for that matter with just a front shot pic like that...........but the body is a gen 1 or 2 Ranger...............

Looks like. But it's a piece of garbage, which is why it's not finished. Who knows how many decent vehicles were killed in the attempt.

The sad thing is, the die hard Chevy people I know,
know better than to think 305 power is actually something. :icon_thumby:

IMO, Any car I've been in with a stock 305 was a turd. I wouldn't even mess with one, better off just sending it to the recycler. I have had a 327 that was pretty fast, but it still wasn't all that.

Pete

The 302's only real saving grace was that it was plopped into a street legal go cart (fox body) They were nothing to write home about in a truck.

Being a debored 350 rather than a destroked 351 helps make them a better truck engine than a 302. My dad had a '81 1500 with a 305, it was fairly spunky and towed way more than it should have way better than it should have.

Unless you have a fresh low mile 305 laying around I would shop for a 350, they all but grow in trees.

Thank you...a ford guy who can appreciate other motors. It wasn't fresh but it only had about 87 000 KM on it. And i built it in a month and a half. ITs my junkyard rocket...and its no turd. I smoked my friends HO 302...but he really can't drive stick too well. Ill post some pics soon.

From my experience on the street and drag strip...ANY stock 302/305 "sports car" is not impressive in the least. My bro-in-law has a stock 5.0" '88 Mustang...I'd line it up with my DOHC 2000 Taurus not not feel undergunned.

The only enticing factor of those cars IMO is that w/ minimal work (gears, programmer, intake, TB and headers) they can be very quick on the track. A friend had an identical car about 10 yrs ago and we did all the usual peprformance upgrades except gears...it ran "OK" but still not a holey terror on wheels. Spend some dime, get a forced induction system and then you HAVE something.

Sorry but your taurus is going to get spanked by that Mustang.

The 351W was much better in trucks though.

later,
Dustin

Oh that's what that is...I though he was storin' a spare! jk

He probably got that far and was like, what do I do with it now? Sell it!

Maybe from a dead stop...I'll give you that. But at a 30mph roll...I know the Taurus will pull right with the 5.0L...done it. Those DOHC motors run very good and the stock '88 5.0L is not exactly a huge power mill.

SBC in a Ranger.........Pro's ? can't think of one. Con's ? Both the distributor and motor mounts are on the wrong ends of the motor

Here you go. My Buddy Jerry's 1985 BII.

350/350 divorced NP-205.

I am in the middle of mine now, I haven't had any big issues yet but I am sure they are on there way as more things come back together.

That hack job Ranger was a gen II, you can tell by the cowl panel. The front suspension is G.M., could be sitting on an s-10 chassis.
The transfer case in that BII ^ is NOT an N.P. 205. It is a Rockwell, conciderably weaker.
Reduce the amount of puke around your truck, find a Ford motor!
