So my boss was gonna take this old girl to the scrap yard after a firestone repair shop told him the engine had a broken crankshaft. i offered $200 and he took it so i towed it to my dads house down the street we looked it over and turns out the a/c pump was seized was able to fire her right up after removing the serp. belt

so after dropping another $40 on a bypass pulley we drove her to my house. just gotta give her a tune up oil change and fix an exhaust leak and she will be back on the road :icon_thumby:

Damn. That's one of the best $240 investments I've ever seen.

Dang, wish I could score a deal like that.

I never go to Firestone, it seems like they have no idea what they are doing. It makes me think how many good vehicles were sentenced to the scrap yard because of things like this. But yeah, best deal ever.

Tell me about it. Mines not quite as nice, but a similar deal.

My cousin was going to scrap a 2001 Ranger 3.0 for a bad transmission. Since my dad and I both have Rangers, she offered it to us instead. So far we've got $90 into it for a key and mass air cleaner. Was under powered when we first ran it, but cleaning the MAF sensor helped a lot. Recently picked up parts for a tune-up, about another hundred. Throwing sides for maf and intake air temp (IIRC) even after clearing codes. So far the trans doing good.

Dang... call the cops because you stole that one :)

Nice score, and are you going to tell your boss what was needed to fix it :)

And let this be a lesson to you all: get a second opinion on *any* major engine/ transmission work!

nice score! yeah, i'd be tempted to put it on craigslist and sell it!

lol i plan on keeping it for a few reasons one to have a spare vehicle and have a stronger one to tow my trailers. the main reason is nostalgia my dad had a 97 when i was growing up brings back lots of memories :D
