Here is the long story short,

I live with and support my unemployed stepfather and little sister.
I own a 2007 Cobalt (with payments) and have about $6000 in assorted debt ($3500 in medical, $2500 in credit card)

I may move out because it is a bad situation, but regardless,

ON THIS NOTE, I also own 2 (Count them, 2) Rangers, a 98 2wd V-8 swapped orange std cab, stepside bed, and a 00 4.0 Super cab/stepside bed. I have not titled the 00 yet as I JUST bought it (Paid very little for it, needed very little work, hence buying it regardless of debt).

The rangers are worth MAYBE $3500 a piece.

The cobalt I'm selling regardless, and trying to not take a hit on it, but the question is this:

If you have a 'project car' that you have put a ton of work into that you can't drive in winter, and a DD for winter, how bad would you have to be 'off' to sell your project... I am contemplating selling the V8, but feel that "I can't because of all the work I have put into it" How do you feel about your projects when times are tough?

when i moved to the islands,i was in desperatefinancial distress.
i contemplated leaving the ranger behind.....for about a minute.

bringing it wasn't cheap,but i'm glad i did.

Keep it if it can, because you will never get back what you paid.

I hate having a debt to pay. Thats why I always pay off my credit card and never buy something that I don't have enough cash for. If I ever get to be in your shoes, I would get rid of the Cobalt and maybe get a used car that gets the same MPG (if MPG is needed). And work 2 jobs to get the bills paid, so I can keep the stuff I own. If it comes down to it, cut the un-needed stuff, eat sandwhiches, and suffer without A/C in the house (if you live in a hot climate). Because once you break down to sell you stuff, it won't get better (unless that thing is what leeching your money).

Since I already own 2 trucks, the cobalt is 100% moot and will go asap. Fortunately I have a good job and take the train to work *4 mile drive to train station*

I'm killing the cable at the house since I have an iPhone, and an Xbox, and the A/C is broken in the house anyways.

Thank you for the input, I know I'll get out sooner than later, My expenses are fairly low Vs. my income for now, I was unemployed and crappy job employed for quite a while.

Thats the flipside, I know that I would take a beating on it, and would never see anything exactly like it forsale again. I'll probably 'deal with the debt' to keep it, just 'airing my grievances' essentially, thank you for the input everyone!

for the right price anything of mine could be had...just means i can start over with the fun

For me it would really depend on how bad I needed the money, and what kind of prices people were willing to pay for what I was selling.

Speaking of selling though, if you decide to sell the 5.0 ranger let me know. I've always wanted to do a 5.0 swap on mine but I dont have a place to work anymore and its my only vehicle...

Unless it meant not eating or selling either of my ranger "toys" I would find another way. Despite the money involved in building a custom vehicle there is also a monumental time devotion to the project. It would be very hard for me to part with them, they are just as important to me as my testicles. Come to think of it I would sell a testie before one of my rangers. Just saying.

lets just say when i built my 69 stang from basically the frame up considerin there was nothin left of the body i said ill build it sell it make a dime or 2 when it came down to it i absolutely couldnt its like it was talkin to me haha id have to be completely flat broke to sell that baby idk if you feel the same but thats how much a "project" means to me

i would drive it in the winter if i had to.

too complicated a thing really. my ranger is unsellable.

but the dirt bikes etc are not....and it would be a serious and permanent loss all around for me to sell stuff as i use it all....what is not actively used, most folks would consider junk(spare parts etc)....but its how i keep going on the cheap. in my case selling my ranger and tools would be stupid...

i was once asked if i would give up everything to save a life....situational to my immediate friends and family the answer is yes. but i am a man of limited income and means, and all my shit is paid for....and its sad to think of the small pittance that my posessions add up to money wise. never really thought of it till the question was asked...makes me wonder about myself.

but situations constantly change, theres alot of ways to keep food on the table...transportation is possible many ways...things built to your specific task not so many. very hard to replace, especially if you become disabled at some point.

the simple truth is, supporting family outside of my wife and kids keeps me pretty broke...but i will only help those trying to help themselves. so i know where your at.

keep on keepin on. sometimes life sucks:dunno: better then being dead.:icon_surprised:

That is the #1 reason why I don't think I could bring myself to sell it

A lil input, there is almost nothing that could ever get me to get rid of my ranger, she is my first love and I hope to keep her till I die

I have mixed emotions on this one. My first car was a 1967 MGB. I rebuilt/replaced almost everything on it and learned how to wrench on cars. I sold it along with 3 other cars before I got married. The local newspaper raised my ad rates because they thought I was a dealer! I didn't really care what I drove between then and now, but now that TRS has opened up the car-loving beast in me again. I would love nothing more than to have that specific car back again. It makes me wince to think that it probably got crushed.
