So I want to SAS my truck next summer and I'm kinda torn I have a idea and I need your help cause this is all new territory for me. I was thinking of going with a dana 30 or 44 and put some heavy springs maybe from a V8 jeep. Reason being I would like to put a plow on my truck and have it be dependable and be able to handle the extra weight. My other thought was maybe f150 coils. I need to know if I'm nuts or if this might actually work??

huh......I wonder if anyone in the world has ever SAS'd a ranger before........I bet you could find some great info by searching:icon_thumby:

I guess my question is more towards the f150 springs. Would they fit and how kidney jarring do u think it would be?

I think F-150 springs are fine if you got a plow on it. Use '73-'79 coils, not later TTB coils though.

But like said, forget the D30... A 30 is hardly adequate for a Ranger alone, let alone one with a snowplow hanging off the front of it :shok:

so I should try to get a D44 outta a...:icon_confused:

sorry but the whole sas is something I wanna do and I've tried researching some things but I normally get lost some where around xj yj hj bj rubi zj yada yada yada

'80s Jeep Wagoneers are a popular choice for a D44, though it'll be a lo-pinion...

A lot of guys take an F-150 D44 and cut it down 6" on the passengerside, which then allows use of an aftermarket early Bronco shaft in it.

The early Bronco D44 itself is a tough find nowadays, though if you do find one, it will probably be the easiest one to swap under there (especially if you want to run coils). The eB D44 is also lo-pinion, unlike the F-150 D44.

So I'm looking for a F-150 D44 then I'm gonna have to take it down 6" on the passenger side. and that will let me run coils ok got it thanks a lot junkie.

Seems like in my area the 78/79 ford D44 are dime a dozen and easy to come by.

It is a little more work to use the FW HP D44, if you are gonna narrow it, but to me it would be worth it, best of both worlds: HP and narrow, which you only get one of those if you go with the relatively rare EB D44.

I plan to do the above when I get to my SAS someday. :icon_welder:

Post lots of pics so we can gawk and critique :)

i'm running f-150 springs and it ride's o.k.

i also was running a d30 for a couple years, i never had a severe failure but it would eat wheel bearings like no other. it wasnt just mine going through the wheel bearings as 2 other members are still battling with them. i upgraded to a 77 F-150 HP44. the 76-77's has removable wedges for the radius arms and disc brakes. so i could retain my current jeep style long arms. 78-79's have cast wedges so they cant be cut off the axle tube.
