Hey guys,

I'm due for some new rubber and have been doing some research. I really like the Duratracs because of the awesome wet road reviews. But when I take my truck off road more than not it hits the beach sand.

I was just wondering if anyone has experience with the Duratracs in sand, or what other tire you recommend. I know that the Duratrac has a pretty aggressive tread pattern, but was still hoping they perform well in the sand. They look bad a$$!

Am also open to alternative tire options as well.

Thanks in advance.

I live in Florida so the sand here isnt really to incredibly soft. I just need a tire that isnt going to get stuck as soon as it touches some sand. I only have a 2wd but have taken it into the sand quite a bit. Don't get stuck often, only when not using my head.

*I have a lockright locker as well.

The KM2s do really well in sand. Ive also heard that the wrangler MT/Rs do great in sand. The MT/Rs the Military uses on Humvees

General Grabber AT2. You'll love them.

Less to do with tire design, and more to do with tire contact patch. The bigger the contact patch, the better on sand. Skinny tires sink into the sand fast, and big mud tires just carve out holes unless you can maintain momentum.

The trick is, tire PRESSURE. Get that contact patch as big as possible without risking losing a bead, and you can go anywhere in the sand.

We run fully loaded superduties towing monster toy haulers (grossing anywhere from 15k to 21k total weight) out into the oregon and california sand dunes and all we do is drop tire pressure from the 80 to 100psi tow pressure down to about 15-25psi for running in the sand.

Stock tires, mud tires, all terrains, doesnt really matter. As soon as they mushroom out, its on! Once unloaded, we cruise all over the dunes in 2wd, and just use 4x4 for some of the nastier hill climbs.

Ive burried my truck in the sand with full air pressure, got out, dropped pressure, and literally drove right out of my holes without any assistance.

The only downside is the amount of time it takes to air back up once your back on pavement.
