I am searching for junk yard gears -what is the most likely donor of dana 28 4.10 &7.5 4.10's .also if I could get some used 4.56's from someone on here that would be sweet too!

2.3L 4x4 rangers usually have 4.10's, if you really want to get lucky, look for a '90-92 2.3 ranger 4x4, you'll get a real D35 with 4.10's

That's true. My '94 2.3 4x4 has 4.10's in it. Good thing it also has a tall OD gear in the tranny too.

Easiest way is to look on the door card and look for a F7 or 87 axle code on rangers.

And if you're going to a different ratio, you may as well upgrade to a later D28 or a D35. D28's after 93' share the same beams, hubs, axle shafts/u-joints, and brakes as the bigger D35. There was nothing really weak about the D28, except for the puny shafts and u-joints that would snap like pretzels even under anemic power of the 2.8 "wheezer" V6. With the addition of the bigger shafts, this problem no longer exists. Some say it just moves the weak point to the inner most shafts and ring and pinion, but I think that a moderately used "hybrid" D28/35 would hold up just fine. However, if I did have 2 to choose from i would pick a D35 any day. But reality versus fantasy left the decision pretty easy for me. I run a "hybrid" d28/35.

The D35's with 4.10's are just becoming to hard to find, and if you were to regear an axle, why not go to 4.56's? or 4.88's, hell.....5.13's!? So, being one that believes in recycling auto parts, I choose a pre-existing axles that had 4.10's, that I could find for cheap and readily available.

Good luck on your search!:icon_thumby:

If you are looking for a D35 chunk with 4.10's already in it, a REAL D35 chunk
PM me... I found one recently.

I also located a D28 (early type, not the Hybred) but I left that where I found it, if someone wants it I'll go get it, but...

I should have added that i have a DANA 28 &7.5 and plan to keep it that way-would like advice finding salvage yard 4.10's or getting a line on 4.56's or lower but i am looking for DANA 28 & 7.5 stuff

Still look at later trucks. I think the hybrid guts will work in the true D-28 chunk.

You may just want to bite the bullet and get some Yukons. It would be easier that trying to find a diff and not knowing for sure that it's good.

Don't neglect Bronco2's but before you walk up to check the door tag
take a peek through the grill if you DO NOT see an auto transmission
cooler peeking out in front of the radiator walk away.

Roughly half of the 4.10 chunks I've found (real D35's and of course D28's)
have been in Bronco2's, but the 4.10's were NEVER offered with a V6
(either 2.8 or 2.9) manual trans

a Gen3 ranger with 4.10's will essentially always be a hybred.

I have difficulty wrapping my mind around why anyone would want to keep a D28 when they have the tiniest excuse to swap in a D35.

if you are near Salem Oregon and can wait like a month I'll have a D28 with 4.10's available... if you are sticking with 31" tires you won't have too much of an issue, but if you drive like me your brakes will be lacking... my 7.5 will be available too, but I would consider it a temporary solution and would keep an eye out for another :)
