salt lake city, utah

LOL, thanks for labeling me a gang member Froggy. :icon_rofl:

Well think about it, I know you dropped the polygamy thing a while ago. But gang members have multiple girls too. Morman pharmacist are drug dealers in a large organization. Show me one mormon who dont carry a gun. And Im soryr but it has to be said, look at texas, they got raided by the cops in their "compound" LOL...

I know some of this may be inaccurate but it was funny.

Yes, it was 1890

Show me one mormon who dont carry a gun.

Me (don't even own one)

Yeah, these guys were doing it when it was against the law.

:D

WOW, ive been there before. my brother in law has lived there basicly his whole life. his family lives there. idk if you guys know them but there last name is goldsberry. any who, i had no idea that slc had all of this going on.

sounds like an extremely exciting place. the only thing about gang members i was worried about was. like when those of you on here state that you went to cali and they tryed to hijack your ride when your going across a bridge. but sounds like you dont have that problem.

as far as area. his son had a brain trauma. has permanant brain damage and it causes his lungs to not work right or something. so down town its hard for him to breathe. so he said he moved up on the hill... im assuming that means a high point in slc over looking town or something.

what are the automotive colleges like in the area?

Creepy? Please explain "creepy".

I've lived in the Salt Lake valley my entire life, and frankly I don't know why you would call us creepy.......even outside of SLC.

Trip #1: Stopped to get gas and some food in Salinas (I believe). Walked into a pretty busy Subway and when I walked in everyone, I mean EVERYONE, stopped what they were doing and watched me order my food, sit down with it and leave back to my car.

Creepy.

Trip #2: Not sure what city. Stopped at a McDonald's with my fiance, sat down to eat with her and she needed a napkin, so I got up to get her some and an older (50's) woman stopped me and asked me if I was one of "those people that wear black hats." I told her no and moved on.

After eating our food, my fiance went to the restroom to clean up and as soon as the bathroom door closed, the woman decided to come up to me at the table and asked me if I was a cop, I told her no and she then began to laugh and said "oh, cause I thought you were because of your hair" (I'm in the Marines). She then proceeded to tell me that the Family that was sitting across the dining area from me, was a bunch of racists because of the way they were pointing their feet towards my fiance (she's 1/2 Mexican).

After all of this my fiance finally comes out of the restroom and we started to leave and as we were walking out the door we heard the lady say VERY quietly; "I need to go to the hospital."

Creepy.

As you can see, this is why I think it's creepy there. Every time I stop there I get weird reactions or crazy things happen. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful state with awesome scenery, but I don't ever want to stop in that state again if I don't have to.

One of my kids, some grandkids and great-grandkids live in SLC. They love it! It's rather dry, cold in the winter, lots of snow. Low unemployment, low cost of living, good schools, low crime rate, lots of technology. On the bad side, you will have to become a Morman or suffer lots of discrimination. I've had a drugstore refuse to fill a prescription because it wasn't issued by a Morman doc and I wasn't a Morman. A friend opened a Dollar General store there. The local minister arranged to have 300 people spend the day browsing the store so it would look busy and was very supportive. Then he found my friend wasn't Morman and it was several days before ONE SINGLE customer came into his store. After weeks of one or two customers per day, he gave up and closed the store. Daughter was refused employment unless she converted to being a Morman. So she did and was immediately hired by the same company. Grandkids who aren't Morman have lots of difficulty finding jobs. I'm guessing the vast majority of unemployed in SLC are non-Morman? Of course Lutherans consider the Morman religion a 'cult'.

Salt lake city is a long ways away from Salina.

Salina is about the creepiest town in Utah, next to Panguitch or Mona.

SLC is just like any other big city, and the mormons aren't all that noticeable unless you watch the local news or hang around temple square on Conference weekends, or even go to WalMart on sunday. They are all in their sunday best doing some shopping. :icon_bounceblue:

Interesting. Like BlackBII said, Salina is probably 150-160 miles from SLC. I think this is probably typical of a small town that doesn't get a lot of "out-of-towners". Stop in SLC, and I can almost guarantee that's not going to happen.

what are the automotive colleges like in the area?

Salt Lake Community College was involved in the Ford ASSET program last time I checked, and Utah dealers are still listed as ASSET sponsors. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be anymore, but I don't see it listed on SLCC's website. They have several different Automotive classes though. I'm not aware of a Wyotech anywhere, or anything like that. Some of these other guys from here may know of somewhere else though.

Here's some info I found for you on Automotive repair:

http://www.slcc.edu/autotechnologies/index.asp

This is on Collision and Auto Body:

http://www.slcc.edu/autorepairandrefinish/index.asp

Hopefully this helps.

Oh, and I've lived here all of my life, and yes the air quality gets bad a few days a year. But I just found out some interesting information from a USU professor. A lot of our "smog" we get comes from California, and it follows the air stream through Logan. I have not verified this, but I don't know why he would make it up.

EDIT: I'd also like to steer you AWAY from ITT Tech, which is here in Salt Lake (Murray specifically). They promised a lot of things to me, like job placement, and guaranteed compensation. None of this happened.

Thank you for the kind comments about Salt Lake. I love the dry air in the summer, but in the winter it can get to me a bit. There are times we need to turn on a humidifier in the winter. Sometimes I have to put lotion on my hands, which isn't so manly =).

I'm not trying to turn this into a religion topic, but I'd like to comment on the experiences you've explained above. A lot of what you're saying is unlawful. You simply cannot refuse to hire someone because they are not LDS (Mormon). If this is happening, are they reporting this to the state or job services? I find it extremely hard to fathom that an employer would tell someone "we will not hire you unless you are LDS". Was this a question on their application or in the interview process? If you provide me with specifics, I would love to report it for you. I have hired several people myself, and I do not think it's lawful to even ask the question.

There are certain jobs that do require you to be LDS but these are jobs that deal with the LDS church specifically (i.e. people who work inside Temples, etc.). I'm doubting these were the positions they were applying for. There are other opportunities for those who are not LDS to work and be trained in a profession by the LDS church itself.

Religion has hypocrites. This is in all religions unfortunately. I do remember as a kid having LDS friends that couldn't play with other kids who weren't LDS. Luckily, I was not raised this way. I was never once told this kind of crap (nor will I teach my kids this), and to this day most of my very best friends are not LDS. We do have our quirks. As BlackBII said, the worst thing an LDS individual can do is find someone from the ward over at Smith's (grocery store) on a Sunday. I am probably viewed as a hypocrite when I swear or go over to the Smith's, but that's cool. I'll move on, and I'm only worried about one judge.

Sorry to go a bit off topic swynx, and everyone else.

utah gets a bad rep for the mormons. like i said less than 20% of our population is. that was not the case 10 or 15 years ago. it has mostly been diluted by those who are flocking here because it is a great place to live despite the inaccurate reputation
i understand that bad experiences have been had by out-of-towners in the past. couple that with the bad reputation, and a really jaded perception is what you get.
salt lake has been evolving especially the past decade.
and btw iirc the mormon per-capita population of the state of idaho is within a few percent of utah's

if a person wants to believe that utah=mormons, and mormons=(insert inaccurate perception here), despite being wrong on not one but both counts. there's nothing i can say to help

from one of my previous posts i was extremely detoured from itt/wyotech. so theres no chance i will go there. youve listed specifically the type of colleges i was looking for. with the asset programs and whatnot. thank you guys for your input. the last 5 times ive been to slc. it was in the winter. i also never noticed the mormons or whatever. but i also dont pay attention to that kinda stuff.

Good. Like I said, a lot of things were told to me when I was enrolling into ITT that never took place. Their version of job placement was finding me a job being a solder jockey for 7 or 8 dollars an hour. The best thing they offered was an interview (not a job) at Ebay, which anyone off the street could have done without the 27,000 dollar tuition. And it's not like I was a slouch in school that was just coasting through, I was valedictorian of my class.

SLCC is very reasonably priced, and there are several successful individuals who have graduated from there. In hindsight I should have gone there instead.

LOL, yeah I know. I need a slappin'. It's hard for me to break away form work most of the time. Plus my sissy truck isn't a wheelin' machine like yours. I have to keep mine somewhat practical with the kids and all. My other project sometimes leaves the Ranger feeling neglected.
