So I've decided to buy the Saginaw for the ranger and I guess it's obsolete. Or am I looking in the wrong direction? What's the next best thing?

What is a Saginaw?

"What is a Saginaw?"

Nuthin's saggin. And please don't call me "aw".

Ford Saginaw Power Pump Install

It seems the pumps are available, but not with the bracket or reservoir you need to fit the Ranger.

I did find this:
Ford Ranger Explorer Saginaw Power Steering Pump Conversion Adapter Kit
It says for 3.0 & 4.0. I can't find a good picture of the way the pump mounts on a 2.3 anywhere to compare with.

I found one:

From that I can't see why the EBay part couldn't be made to work? Unless it interferes with the alternator mount... It'd be VERY close.

I have no idea, other than generally, what that is or how you find one and put it together. I’m looking to put AC back into my 87, so every time I see one in the pull apart, I try to get down there and look. Not only do I need all the AC parts, I also need all the brackets and wire harness, etc..

Does that idea work for you? Could you just grab a used system out of an otherwise similar truck?

It was only used in 78-79 full size trucks with the HD power steering option. Pretty rare. If the Proquipped kit will fit a 2.3, it's the way to go.

Check with street rod suppliers like Speedway, it's common to see a Saginaw pump on a car with a Mustang II rack and pinion. Look closely, though, recirculating ball steering needs a different pressure than rack and pinion does.
My Ranger and 77 Mustang both have relatively quiet Ford C2 pumps running Mercon fluid. My Mustang had a Ford Thompson pump and I switched it to a C2 from a 78 Mustang to save weight and space.

My bad... I didn't catch the 2.3L part of the question.

Thanks man! Unfortunately I looked up those part numbers and they have been long gone since 2011. I thought Saginaws for the rangers were more common. By any chance do you know of a similar option to upgrade the ps pump to get rid of the whine.

You'll definitely need to get the wiring, and other things.
