I am getting ready to do the explorer leaf spring swap to my '91 ext. cab 4x4 4.0l ranger.

I plan to add one leaf from the ranger pack, and use the ranger shackles.

The middle leaf on the drivers side is broke, but I have one new one i purchased.

What leaf from the ranger pack should I add to the explorer pack?

Will I need to use the stock block to get 1.5-2" of lift?

What length of u-bolts will I need to get for this setup? And are the u-bolts 1/2" x 3 1/4" ?

Thanks in advance for replys. Ted

I suggest leaving the Ranger main leaf, cut the eyes off the exploder main and get a new center bolt.
Removing the factory main leaves is a major pain, sometimes requiring new bolts and/or bushings.
I just go to the local spring shop and buy 4 U-bolts, 2 center bolts, and 4 quick clips.
I believe Ranger u-bolts are 7/16" You have to bore out the holes in the plate to use 1/2.

I did basically the same thing. I ended up with two ranger top leaves but what ever. I got two inches of lift and I eliminated the stock blocks. So over all the springs are good for 3.5-4 inches.

A buddy of mine put a Ranger main leaf (eyes cut off) under an Ex main leaf in a 3 leaf pack, and got about 4" of lift from it. I did the same thing and got 2". If you have really saggy springs, that'll affect the height.

Thanks for all the input. I like the idea of leaving the ranger main leaf in, but I already have new Polyurethane spring and shackle bushings on the way. So I think I will use the explorer main and cut the eyes off the ranger main spring.

So if I leave out the lift block use the explorer pack with the ranger main with eyes cut off I should get 1.5-2" of lift depending on the condition of the leafs?

Thanks, Ted
